Honey eats toadstools!

Honey unlike Lucy doesn’t usually scavenge, in fact unless the food is in her dish or Kong she tends to ignore it until given permission to eat it.  Useful when you put a piece of cake on the floor forgetting she is on the chair nearby!  Not so with Lucy if it is in her reach and just might be edible she swallows it down without a second thought.

Christmas was over and after all the turkey and tinsel Honey was pottering around the garden doing her usual inspection.  However this time she was taking longer than usual.  Hidden behind the gazebo her owners didn’t worry as she often found the trail of a hedgehog or fox and would follow it around the garden for hours!  This time though she was staying in one spot so her owner decided it needed some investigation.  Oh no!!!!!  Honey was found devouring toadstools, something she had never done before but these were frozen by the frost and must have seemed very enticing.  Grabbed quickly by her owner she was put indoors while her owner phoned the vets.  Unknown by her owner was that toadstools are very poisonous for dogs; in fact they are as tempting and as deadly as chocolate is for dogs!

Honey was rushed to the vets who immediately gave her an injection to make her sick and said he would look after her for a while to see how she was.  Several hours later a very hangdog faced Honey was fetched home, her tummy hurt and she was in a bad mood - but that didn’t stop her going into the garden to find the toadstools again.  Luckily her owner had already been in the garden and dug them up!

Honey and Lucy catch a hedgehog!

Whilst Lucy and Honey were out doing their late night investigations before going to bed they suddenly started barking (well Honey squeaking because of her deafness)!  Looking out the window at the top of the garden where they were barking, their owner had no idea what had got them so agitated, so she went along to the back of the garden where the girls were shouting to see what the matter was.

There standing his own ground was an enormous hedgehog.  This hedgehog obviously hadn’t gone short of food this winter as he was almost the size of a big rabbit and instead of curling into a ball was actually staring back at Honey and Lucy as if challenging them to try and make him leave their garden.  Never the bravest Honey and Lucy hid behind theirs owners’ legs continuing to shout.  The hedgehog just stared impassively at their owner and then decided to amble away.  He clearly wasn’t in the least bit frightened as he decided to walk in front of the greenhouse and check the grass and ground for any tasty morsels that took his fancy.  Then again taking his time he disappeared under the garden shed and off home.

Lucy and Honey shouted at the intruder not to come back then raced indoors!  Job done!

Honey nearly goes fishing!

Honey as you may remember is always investigating around the garden - well you never know who might have visited since she last checked - could be that hedgehog had dared to come back and trepass!

So on this very frosty morning she was so engrossed in checking she didn’t notice Lucy had rushed back in for her breakfast.  Being deaf there was no point calling her so her owner waited by the door until she could attract Honey’s attention.  Suddenly alert to her owner Honey started to race back down the garden, deciding to do a cut through behind the gazebo and over the patio via the fishpond!  This was to be her undoing!  Racing over the patio she stepped on a slippy slab and started to slide…. Trouble was she was going so fast she couldn’t put her brakes on and with a scrabble of paws she saw the pond looming dangerously close.  With a last big stretch forward she managed to get a hold and haul her back legs from the edge of the pond before they touched the water.

A little shocked and feeling rather silly she quickly glanced around to see if anyone was watching.  Her owner obligingly pretended she was looking the other way!  With a quick shake of her long silky ears Honey walked the rest of the way daintily on the grass until she was safely in the house!

Honey, Lucy and the grandchildren

Honey and Lucy love it when their owner’s grandchildren come to stay.  They usually arrive in a flurry of bags, biscuits and interesting smells!  First they disappear into the bedroom and the interesting strong smell usually disappears to be replaced by what their owners call ‘sweet baby’.  Then they reappear to have dinner.  This is the best time of all!

Elliot although quite grownup at 2 years old knows he can drop the odd crust or two of a sandwich and Honey or Lucy will vacuum up the evidence into their tummies before his Daddy even notices!  When he has had enough and wants to get eat the nice yogurt his grandma gets for him crusts disappear towards Honey and Lucy at an alarming rate!

William however is only 1 year old and has decided the time has come for him to feed himself like his big brother.  This means more food for Honey and Lucy!!  William is very determined but doesn’t always get the spoon the right way to his mouth and lots of tempting morsels drop onto the floor, often they even actually drop onto Honey and Lucy!  Honey and Lucy then have fun grooming each other finding the last tempting morsel of rice or chicken!  Food doesn’t drop on Honey and Lucy quite so often now - they are more careful since Elliot dropped an apple onto them!

Honey and William

Honey has decided the grandson called William is her adopted puppy.  They follow each other around and when William pulls Honey’s ears or investigates her dinner while she is eating she looks at him with her big brown eyes and lets him!

William then saw Honey disappear behind the long curtains and realised this looked like a good game.  Waiting till Honey was distracted he would rush behind the curtains and giggle - Honey would look around then rush up to him with a big lick!  Then Honey would decide to investigate behind the curtains at whatever William was doing and William thought this was her way of hiding and laughing gleefully would pull her long tail peeping out from behind the curtain!  They would keep this game up for several minutes until Williams Daddy decided to give William a bread stick. Being the sharing lad that he was he ate the top bit while Honey munched little bits from the bottom!  Of course sometimes Honey would eat faster than William and he would be rather indignant until another breadstick appeared!

Elliot and Honey get into mischief!

Elliot and William were staying at BamMah and PotPot’s  for the evening while their mommy and daddy went out for a nice relaxing evening.  Given full instructions they settled William into his travel cot and within 10 minutes he was fast asleep on his tummy, thumb secured in his mouth and padded bottom in the air!  Elliot however decided he was too big for a travel cot as he had his own bed at home - well he was nearly 3 years old!  So after some more stories and cuddles he was settled in BamMah and PotPot’s big bed.

Settling down a little later with a welcome cup of tea BamMah and PotPot prepared to enjoy the peace and quiet until the grandchildren’s parents came home when they suddenly noticed Honey had disappeared.  Calling her name (bit daft really as she is deaf!) they searched but were unable to track her down anywhere in the house or garden, then they heard the giggling!  Tiptoeing into the bedroom BamMah was greeted with the sight of Elliot and Honey and a delicious smell.  Looking closer she suddenly realised Elliot had decided to open the Opium body lotion cream she had had for her birthday and rub it generously all over Honey - not to mention the bed, his pyjamas, in fact the only person not covered was William still happily asleep sucking his thumb.

BamMah was cross!  She told Elliot and Honey to sit down and not move until she returned with a bowl of water and some cloth’s.  When she returned Elliot was in floods of tears - BamMah had never been cross before!  Ignoring the bright blue eyes full of tears and big brown ones in sympathy, she tutted and cleaned everything up!  Honey slunk off to her basket and to tell Lucy all about it as BamMah tucked a very tearful Elliot back into the now clean bed.  Looking up at his grandma Elliot said “I am very sorry BamMah.  I am a little bit sad now and need a grape and biscuit to make me happy again”.

Well what was grandma to do? Elliot’s mummy and daddy left strict instruction no more food after bedtime and definitely no biscuits until Elliot was older!  But oh those big blue eyes and the little sob made her feel so guilty for being cross that grandma gave in and gave Elliot some grapes and a biscuit!  Knowing it was naughty she told Elliot to keep quiet it was to be their secret!  But Elliot forgot and the next morning happily chatted to his mommy and told her all about being naughty and the biscuit!  Oh dear, mommy was very cross and told grandma she had been ‘busted’!  Well at least it taught grandma not to tell fib’s and Elliot knew not to touch grandma’s special creams without asking first!  Honey however was totally unrepentant enjoying her silky sweet smelling fur and making Lucy jealous!

Honey helps Phoebe

Honey thinks people and children exist in this world purely so they can have the pleasure of petting her and therefore when anyone new is around she will trot up to them tail wagging expecting a fuss.

One day visiting a little fete with her owners and Lucy, Honey saw a pretty little girl (named Phoebe)looking at her and decided she must want to fuss her.  Dragging her owner in the Phoebe's direction she was astonished to see the little girl look in horror and hide behind her mummy.  The mummy instead bent down to fuss Honey, but Honey wanted a fuss from the little girl so her owner assured Phoebe Honey was very friendly and she neednt be frightened.  The little girl bent down and very tentatively put a hand towards Honey, and sensing she wasnt sure Honey sat still on her best behaviour and waited.  Slowly the little girl touched Honey and smiled, saying 'she is so soft'.   Her mother then looked at Honey's owners with tears in her eyes and explained.

When Phoebe was a lot younger she had never been afraid of dogs until one ran towards her and bit her quite badly needing her to go to hospital.  Since then she had been so terrified of dogs they wondered if Phoebe would ever get used to dogs or being near them, especially as her grandma had a dog.  So Honey with one waving tail and soft brown eyes had achieved what they couldnt - over come her fear of dogs!
